IMPORTANT UPDATE: 2009 Hornet Engine Claims
Posted: July 7th, 2009 |
EFFECTIVE 7/11/09
HORNET - ENGINE CLAIMS
1. Any qualified HORNET competitor has the right to claim engine of top 5 feature finishers during REGULAR NIGHT EVENT. The claim is $500.00 + $50.00 for the tow truck. Claims do not include: flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, bell housing, headers, carburetor, starter, fan & pulleys, motor mount, sending units and switches for oil pressure and water temperature, carburetor adaptor, clutch ball, clutch arm, throw out bearings, dip stick, water pump, distributor, plug wires or fuel pump.
2. Any driver wishing to make a claim must have taken the checkered flag in the feature and be on the same lap as the leader. The claim must be made in cash to promoter or designated official within 5 (five) minutes after the completion of the feature. The driver must have the claim payment in his posession prior to the feature as he will not be allowed to leave the track prior to claim. A third party cannot provide these items to the claiming driver. No pit crew or other team members allowed in claim area. No driver can make more than ONE claim within the same year. The top 5 finishers engines are able to be claimed. In case of multiple claims on the same engine, the engine will go to the qualified driver who finished the furthest back in the field on the lead lap. If NO claim is made by a driver finishing outside the top 5, then a claim can be made from finishers 2 – 5. If a claim is refused, the claim is not held against the claiming driver. The motivation behind claiming is to keep the prices affordable and create competitive racing.
3. Any driver making a claim must drive his/her car immediately after the finish of the feature, under its own power, directly to the claiming area. Only drivers and officials are allowed in the claiming area. Claiming area must be designated by the promoter to all drivers at the driver’s meeting prior to the feature event. The top 5 finishers must go to the claiming area immediately following the finish of the feature event or will be DISQUALIFIED.
4. The claimed engine must be completely removed within 1(one) hour from the time the claim is made.
5. Refusal to sell forfeits all cash, trophies, contingency winnings and points for the feature. Any driver refusing to sell his/her engine the FIRST time is suspended from racing for a period of ONE week. The second infraction for a driver refusing to sell their engine carries a TWO week suspension. If a driver refuses to sell a THIRD time he/she will be suspended from competition for the remainder of season.
6. All claimed engines must be removed from the car at the track. The buyer must examine the engine before removal. Once removal has started, the sale is final. Any sabotage to claimed engine will result in the saboteur being suspended from all events remaining that season.
7. To claim an engine, the claiming driver must have raced at least 2 prior feature events in the same season. |

The tempature was hot, but the racing was SMOKIN! As the cars lined up at the pit gate the energy was able to be felt county wide. Then came the fans, many coming out for the first time this year. As you feasted your eyes on the track you could tell it was smooth. The excitement was thick in the air before any cars took the track. During hotlaps it all became apparent what the night had in store. The cars filed out on the speedway and you could already smell the testosterone. Come race time, heat number one, all that boiled over on the first lap.
Coming into turn 1 at full speed Chad Kinder had position, but Brian Shaw wanted that same piece of real estate in a bad way. They found that hard concrete wall, with both cars suffering major damage. At that point you knew it would be a long night. Both drivers limped their hotrod's to the pit area. That's when tempers beat the tempature and a scuffle broke out. We halted all action on the track to give officials time to deal with the pit incident. Once returning to the nights action on the speedway we had great side by side racing in all classes. Tough break for M.J. Wheat in the Street Stock division. He lead the first 15 laps, before cutting down a tire. Below is the finishing order for all classes. We will be taking the 4th of July off, and will return to racing on July 11th.

The racing at Clay County Speedway got started with hotlaps, as usual right on time. The track was smooth and tachy, with all 3 classes running very fast. As we were holding the drivers meeting everyone started spotting lightning off to the West. We all know at that point it's time to race "Mother Nature".
Modified heat race #1 was great with Chad Kinder winning, it was nice to see him back at the track. We got to heat #2 and knew it was only a matter of time as it started to have that smell of rain in the air. Once the checkered flag flew on the heat race, here came the rain. We stuck it out for about 10 minutes, but there was way too much rain coming down.
Richard made the decision to call it a rain out, and try it again next week. Everyone needs to keep their ticket stubbs & Pit wrist bands, as they will be good for next weeks event. We would like to thank all drivers and fans for coming, and will see you again next Saturday.
